Deliverables

  • Reworked WooCommerce cart and checkout flow
  • Optimised load path across catalogue, product and cart pages
  • 80% higher conversion on unchanged traffic

Challenge

Svetlyachok sells reflective safety gear, stickers, bracelets, vests and tape, wholesale across Russia and the CIS, with a catalogue split between PVC and fabric product lines. The WooCommerce storefront was losing buyers at the last step: pages were slow to load, and the cart was awkward enough that shoppers who had already chosen products abandoned it before ordering. Traffic was arriving and converting poorly, which meant every marketing rouble was being spent to fill a leaking bucket.

Options Considered

  1. Replatform to a modern stack: rejected. The catalogue, the wholesale pricing rules and the client's day-to-day workflow all lived in WooCommerce; a migration would have paused sales and forced the team to relearn their own admin panel to solve a checkout problem.
  2. Swap in a faster theme: rejected. It would have traded one set of load problems for another while discarding the existing catalogue layout and category structure, and it would not have touched the cart, which was the actual point of abandonment.
  3. Rework the cart and optimise the existing build: chosen. The two defects that cost orders were addressable in place, without disturbing the catalogue or the client's workflow.

Decision

Fix the funnel where it actually leaked rather than rebuilding around it. The cart was reworked so that adding, editing and reviewing an order stopped being a source of friction, and the storefront's load path was optimised so pages stopped losing visitors before the catalogue rendered. Both changes were made inside the existing WordPress and WooCommerce installation, so the client kept the admin panel and the product data they already knew.

Implementation

The work sat on WordPress with WooCommerce for the catalogue and order flow, with jQuery driving the front-end cart interactions. The cart interface was rebuilt around the actions wholesale buyers actually perform, adjusting quantities and reviewing a multi-item order before committing, instead of the default per-page reloads. In parallel, the storefront's asset loading was reworked to cut the time to a usable page across the catalogue, product and cart routes.

Outcome

Conversion rose by 80%. The same traffic that had been filling carts and leaving now completed orders, turning the existing marketing spend into revenue without a replatform, a redesign or a change to how the client runs the shop day to day.
