CasaLista - Home Services Marketplace in Buenos Aires

Tech stack

WordPressWooCommercePHPMultivendorE-commerceSEO

Services

  • Multilingual product import for WooCommerce variable products
  • Moderator-facing upload flow for the services catalogue
  • Standalone multilingual landing page for a single service
  • Documentation and handover so the client runs the import themselves

Deliverables

  • One upload that creates a service in every locale at once
  • Variable products imported with their variations intact
  • nanny.casa-lista.com landing in English, Spanish and Russian
  • Recorded walkthrough the client keeps for their moderators

Challenge

CasaLista sells home assistance services in Buenos Aires: childcare, cleaning, cooking, rentals, tours, legal help. The audience is split by language before it is split by anything else, expats and locals do not read the same listing, so every service has to exist in several languages at once.

On a WooCommerce catalogue that turns into a moderation problem rather than a translation one. A service is a variable product with its own options and prices, and creating it once per language means the same item is entered several times, drifts out of sync, and stays half-published while someone finishes the rest.

Options Considered

  1. Enter each language by hand, rejected. It multiplies the moderator's work by the number of locales and guarantees the versions diverge.
  2. Machine-translate on the fly at render time, rejected. Service descriptions and prices are commercial text; the client needs to control the wording per language.
  3. One upload that writes every locale at once: chosen. The moderator fills the item once, in one form, and the import lays it down across all languages with the variations intact.

Decision

Make the multilingual part invisible to whoever adds the service. The import handles variable products with their variations and puts the localised copies in place in a single pass, so the catalogue can only ever be complete or absent, never half-translated.

Implementation

The site runs on WordPress and WooCommerce. Services are variable products, which is what makes the import non-trivial: a naive importer flattens variations or loses the link between a translation and its parent. The moderator-facing side is a single upload flow, documented so the client's team can run it without me.

Multilingual Upload

Uploading a service so it lands in every localisation at once, from the moderator's side.

The same import from the WooCommerce side, on variable products with their variations.

And the walkthrough left with the client so their team can run the import on their own.

A Service on Its Own Page

The nanny service has its own page inside the catalogue, and then a landing page of its own at nanny.casa-lista.com, separate from the shop: a single nanny, her rates and her areas of the city, in English, Spanish and Russian. A page like this is what a person actually sends to someone, and it can be pointed at ads without dragging the whole marketplace along.

Outcome

Adding a service is one operation again instead of one per language, and the catalogue stops carrying half-translated entries. The client's moderators run the import themselves, and the standalone landing gives the busiest service a page that stands on its own.
