Challenge
The Chelyabinsk Aerated Concrete Company sells building materials, aerated blocks, ceramic and silicate brick, porous ceramic stones and reinforced concrete products, to builders across the region. It had no website at all. Every enquiry arrived by phone, and a buyer asking "how much for a house of this size" could not be answered without someone doing the arithmetic by hand. That put a person in the middle of every quote and left the company invisible to anyone searching online.
Options Considered
- A brochure site with a price list: rejected. It would have made the company findable but left the actual bottleneck untouched: the buyer still cannot tell what their own build costs without calling, so the phone stays in the critical path.
- A catalogue with a request form: rejected for the same reason at one remove. A form collects the enquiry but answers nothing; the buyer waits, and the ones who will not wait leave.
- Catalogue plus a build calculator: chosen. Materials of this kind are bought by volume for a specific structure, so the buyer's own parameters are enough to produce a real offer on the spot.
Decision
Build the site around the moment of decision rather than around the product list. The catalogue carries the full range organised by material type, and a calculator sits alongside it so a visitor entering their own dimensions gets a concrete commercial offer for their query instead of a price per unit they still have to work with. Delivery, payment and reference photos back it up, so the answer arrives complete.

Implementation
WordPress with WooCommerce holds the catalogue and its category structure, with the calculator and callback request wired into the same product data so quotes and listings cannot drift apart. The front end is built on jQuery, on PHP and MySQL underneath.
The site was later infected through the hosting provider, which allowed malicious files to be written into the account, a failure on the host's side, not in the site itself. We cleaned out the infection, hardened the installation and brought the outdated components up to current versions, then moved the site and have kept it maintained since.
Outcome
The share of visits that turn into sales went up, and the mechanism is specific: a visitor who runs the calculator leaves with a concrete offer matched to their own request rather than a number they still have to interpret, so the conversation starts at agreement rather than at arithmetic. The company also came back online after the hosting-side breach with the vulnerable, out-of-date components replaced.
